Experience and Expertise

Lydia studied at University College Dublin, trained as a solicitor in Matheson and qualified in 2011. She worked as a senior associate solicitor in the Matheson Private Client department until she joined O’Connell Brennan in 2022.  Lydia is also a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) with the Irish Tax Institute, a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP), and holds the STEP Advanced PGDip in Wealth Planning.

Lydia specialises in advising on personal tax and estate planning, trusts, asset protection and capital taxes. She also advises on succession law and the administration of deceased estates, often with multi- jurisdictional elements.   She also advises on philanthropic giving and matters relating to capacity and the application of the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015.

Lydia is a member of the STEP Ireland committee and is a lecturer for the STEP diploma. She also regularly presents on issues relevant to estate planning and capital taxes.  

Lydia is co-author of the Irish chapters of the International Comparative Legal Guide for Private Client 2021 (ICLG); International Trust Laws (2021); Getting the Deal Through: Private Client (2019) and ADR and Trusts: An International Guide to Arbitration and Mediation of Trust Disputes (2015) by Spiramus Press.
